Council Kicks off 2024 with Stacked Meeting Agenda
City Council starts the year with a loaded agenda at 7 p.m. tonight (Jan. 9). A ceasefire resolution for the conflict in Gaza, a policy resolution on the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), several contracts and a mysterious closed session are all on the docket.
In total, the meeting has 10 items on the business agenda. The ARPA funds and a potential ceasefire resolution came up at Council’s last meeting, a discussion-only session held Dec. 12. The ceasefire resolution before Council tonight comes from the Human Rights Commission (HRC) and was approved for submission at its Dec. 11 meeting.
The meeting also has three public hearings, including one for a proposed new gas station at the corner of Saginaw Highway and Abbot Road. The plan calls for demolition of the current convenience store, gas pumps and carwash, and construction of a new convenience store and gas pumps. There will also be hearings on the consideration to rezone 730 Grove St. from single family to multiple family residential and a request to construct a 6,500-square-foot car wash facility at 2110 Merritt Road.
Contracts being considered regard the city’s sewer system, the development of a wet weather resiliency plan and more. The full list of agenda items, including contracts, can be viewed on the agenda here.
Council will go into a closed session at the end of the meeting to “discuss an attorney-client privileged memorandum.” The agenda includes space for potential action on the closed-session item.
City Council meets in the Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road. Meetings are available to view live and via recording at this site.
