ELPD Investigating Shots Fired on St. Patrick’s Day
The East Lansing Police Department is investigating shots fired on the evening of St. Patrick’s Day at an apartment complex on the 6000 block of Abbot Road — between Lake Lansing Road and Saginaw Street.
ELi confirmed the incident and got more details from ELPD Deputy Chief Steve Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said that responding officers did not discover anyone injured from the shooting, but one building had been struck with a bullet. Officers also found shell casings on the ground at the scene, supporting statements from witnesses there, Gonzalez said.
The alleged shooter, or shooters, have not been identified, and they had fled the scene before police officers arrived, according to Gonzalez.
Gonzalez did not identify the apartment complex where the incident took place. There are at least two apartment complexes located around the 6000 block of Abbot Road.
ELi was originally notified of the incident by a tip from a reader. They wrote that during a neighborhood meeting, ELPD Sergeant Adam Park offered an update on “St. Patrick’s Day issues in the city.”
According to the reader, Park relayed that a party was broken up at the East Lansing soccer complex and another dispersed at the location the shooting allegedly took place. The reader wrote that “apparently 12 shots were fired at the apartment building but no officers were hit.”
“We would encourage anyone with information on the incident to contact our department,” Gonzalez said.
