View ELi’s Interviews with the Candidates for East Lansing School Board
This November’s ballot includes eight candidates for three open seats on the East Lansing Public Schools Board of Education.
We first introduced the eight candidates to you in August when they supplied written responses to three basic questions.
Given the absence of candidate forums due to the pandemic, ELi’s reporting team decided that recorded video interviews could be valuable to our readers who are voting in this election.
ELi’s Emily Joan Elliott worked with Dr. Jane Turner – a local pediatrician and former School Board trustee – to develop the questions and to interview the candidates.
The candidates were contacted on September 15 and were presented with time slots on September 18, 19, and 20. The candidates were not provided questions in advance. Instead, they were told to be prepared to discuss three broad themes that have often arisen this year: the pandemic; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and the role of a school board trustee.
