ELi’s Investigative News Fund
The ELi Investigative News Fund (INF) was created in August 2023 to help meet rising costs caused by the increased need for investigative journalism in East Lansing.
Donations can be made by credit card (click here to donate by credit card) or by mailing a check payable to “East Lansing Info” to East Lansing Info, P.O. Box 115, East Lansing, MI, 48826-0115. Please note “Investigative News Fund” in the memo line of the check.
ELi is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, which means that all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed under law.
Funds raised through the INF are used to support the costs of ELi’s investigative journalism, including fees associated with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and property record searches, reporters, editors and special assignment photography for investigative news. ELi is able to obtain pro bono pre-publication legal review for our investigative work through ELi’s membership in the Institute for Nonprofit News.
The fund was seeded with a $500 donation by former East Lansing mayor Vic Loomis, who told ELi he took this action because he is “desiring to return transparency to city government.” Loomis was the founding Vice President of ELi’s Board of Directors in 2014.
Examples of ELi’s investigative reporting can be found here.
Thank you for your support!
