Rebecca Kasen Formally Announces Run for City Council
Rebecca Kasen, who serves as executive director at the Women’s Center of Greater Lansing, announced to ELi she has submitted paperwork to run in November’s East Lansing City Council election.
Recently, Kasen was named to the East Lansing Human Rights Commission. Before that, she was one of 14 applicants interested in filling Lisa Babcock’s vacated seat on Council. Noel Garcia was appointed by Council to fill the position.
Kasen provided insight as to why she would like to serve on Council in her application submitted to the City Clerk’s Office.
“I believe in East Lansing,” she wrote on her application. “I love the city and I love living in the city. I believe there are many areas that the city can improve and I want to be part of the positive change.”
Kasen joins a growing list of candidates interested in filling three seats that will be up for grabs in November. So far, Garcia, former Mayor Mark Meadows and Planning Commission Vice Chair Dan Bollman have announced their intentions to run. Current Mayor Ron Bacon and Mayor Pro Tem Jessy Gregg have not yet said if they plan to run for reelection.
The candidates elected in November will join George Brookover and Dana Watson on Council. The filing deadline to run for Council this election cycle is 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 25.
