Edsall, DeLay to Run for City Council, Growing Field of Candidates One Month Before Filing Deadline
Kath Edsall and Adam DeLay are joining the race to serve on the East Lansing City Council, as ELi has now identified five candidates who intend to run for two open seats.
Edsall and DeLay both currently serve on East Lansing city commissions. Edsall is vice chair of the East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission and DeLay is a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission.
Candidates have until July 22 to meet filing requirements, though Interim City Clerk Amy Gordon recommends filing at least a week early. City Council elections will be held Nov. 4. Last week, ELi reported that Chuck Grigsby, Joshua Ramirez Roberts and Liam Richichi intend to run for City Council. Reporting on those candidates can be found here.
Adam DeLay
DeLay sent a press release to ELi announcing his candidacy. DeLay came up short in a bid for City Council in 2021 but has remained active in city government, serving on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, including as chair and vice chair. DeLay has also served on the city’s Community Development Advisory Committee, and has worked in Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office and as an assistant for Sen. Debbie Stabenow. You can find out more about DeLay by visiting his website.
Kath Edsall
Edsall told ELi via text that she will be running. Edsall has served on the East Lansing Board of Education since 2019, and served another term on the school board before that from 2013-2017. She is currently the vice chair of the East Lansing Independent Police Oversight Commission, a body she has served on since it was created in 2021. Last year, Edsall was chosen as a recipient of a Crystal Award from the city.
