ELPL Board Picks Chrissie Evaskis-Garrett as Interim Director
The East Lansing Public Library board of trustees unanimously selected ELPL Collections Team Leader Chrissie Evaskis-Garrett to serve as interim director at the July 16 ELPL board meeting.
The decision comes after current director Kevin King’s resignation, and interviews with the candidates.
Evaskis-Garrett could spend significant time leading the library. Before ELPL hired King, former Adult Services Librarian Angelo Moreno served as interim director from August 2023 until March 2024.
Trustees Pamela Smith and Polly Synk highlighted their appreciation for the “two excellent candidates,” and board President Ameenah Asante similarly complimented Evaskis-Garrett and ELPL Experience Team Leader Elizabeth Kish, who was also considered for the role.
“I thought both interviews were great, and I’m really grateful that both Liz and Chrissie stepped up to the plate,” Asante said. “It was a wonderful opportunity to get to know the two of you better.”
The board also agreed to hire a search firm to assist with hiring a new director, citing the extensive work required that would be beyond their capacity.
The meeting was then closed for an evaluation of King’s tenure, upon his request.
