Only a Few Tickets Remain for ELi’s Special Screening of “Storm Lake”
Tickets to ELi’s special screening of “Storm Lake” are selling out fast after our special offer to East Lansing Insider subscribers, with only 12 of 60 seats now remaining. Please get your tickets now if you’d like to join us for what we expect to be a sell-out event.
On April 13, starting at 7:30 p.m., we’ll be screening the award-winning documentary about local news in America, Storm Lake. (See the trailer here.) The makers of this extraordinary film offered ELi the chance to screen this film for our supporters because they recognize the importance of the work ELi is doing for our community.
The screening will happen at the Robin Theater, a great space in Lansing’s REO Town. ELi Managing Editor Julie Seraphinoff will join me on the stage afterwards for a 20-minute Q&A with the audience.
We’ve set up some fun pre-screening events, too. You can stop by Sleepwalker Ales, next door to the Robin Theater, to grab a drink, including the special Storm Lake cocktail they’re designing for the event. And you can bring whatever you buy to drink to the theater, thanks to the Robin Theater’s rules and the Lansing “social district” regulation that allows open carry of drinks in REO Town.
You can also grab a bite to eat before the show at Saddleback BBQ, Sleepwalker Ales, the REO Town Pub or The Rusty Mug Bar & Grill, all within a block of the Robin Theater (1105 S. Washington Ave. in Lansing).
And one more fun thing: Attorney David Pierson – known to many ELi readers as the attorney who represented the developers who brought East Lansing the Graduate Hotel and The Abbot Apartments – will be keeping his REO Town office open late so film-goers can stop by and see the full-wall, original white-chalk mural in his firm’s lobby. That’s the law offices of McClelland & Anderson, 1142 S. Washington Ave., a half-block from the Robin Theater.
The building originally housed Beeman’s Grocery Store and was later turned into offices. The tenant prior to McClelland & Anderson hired artist Gregory Oberle to create the scene of REO Town’s original glory. The attorneys at McClelland & Anderson hired Oberle back to extend the mural when they took over the space, to tie it more to REO Town, past and present.
David Pierson will be on hand to answer questions about the mural, as the office will be open for this special viewing from 6:30 to 7:20 p.m. on April 13.
Tickets for the film screening at the Robin Theater are $20 per person and can be purchased through the theater’s website. Proceeds go to support ELi.
Space is limited to 60 people, so if you’d like to join us, please grab your tickets today. We hope to see you soon!
