It’s Election Day!
By Lucas Day
The primary election will be held today, so residents who didn’t vote early should head to the polls between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. to cast their ballots.
Notably, East Lansing residents will help decide whether or not to renew a pair of Ingham County millages. One of the millages helps fund essential services for older county residents, and the other funds healthcare services for low income county residents. Read Reporter Dustin Dufort Petty’s coverage of the millages here.
Also on the ballot, voters will decide who represents their party in the November general election. The most closely watched races will be for U.S. Senate seats, as Harper Hill and Elissa Slotkin will compete for the Democratic party’s nomination, while Justin Amash, Sherry O’Donnell, Sandy Pensler and Mike Rogers are in the running to represent Republicans on the ballot in November.
Same day voter registration is an option in Michigan! Those who still need to register can head to the city clerk’s office, located within the City Hall building at 410 Abbot Road. Those who are looking to register to vote should bring a photo ID and proof of residence, such as a utility bill.
Have other questions? There are probably simple answers. The Michigan Voter Information Center website has a wide range of resources for voters. Find your polling place, see what is on the ballot, check your registration and more using this link.
