East Lansing Mayor George Brookover Will Not Seek Reelection
East Lansing Mayor George Brookover will not seek reelection in the November 4 election.
Brookover will step down following this year’s election after serving four years on City Council – two as mayor. Brookover announced he will not run through a press release issued by Harbor Strategic Public Affairs.
“It has been an honor to serve the residents of East Lansing on council and as mayor,” Brookover is quoted as saying in the press release.
“Hopefully those elected in the future will strive to bring our diverse community together rather than seek division. I sincerely thank East Lansing residents for the opportunity to serve and lead.”
Prior to being elected to serve on City Council, Brookover served on the city’s Planning Commission, Housing Commission, Community Development Commission, and on the East Lansing Public Schools Board of Education.
With Brookover deciding to not seek reelection, it means there will be two new council members after November’s election, as Councilmember Dana Watson announced earlier this year she is not running.
So far, ELi has identified five candidates who plan to run: Adam DeLay, Kath Edsall, Chuck Grigsby, Joshua Ramirez-Roberts and Liam Richichi. Residents have until July 22 to file to run for City Council.
