Voters to Decide on Ingham School District Special Education Bond Proposal Today
It’s Election Day, and East Lansing voters will head to the polls to decide whether or not to support an Ingham Intermediate School District bond proposal that would fund improvements to special education centers.
At Tuesday’s election, area residents will vote on a nearly $100 million bond proposal to pay for the Beekman Center in Lansing to be demolished and rebuilt and renovations to the Heartwood School in Mason. About 240 students ages 3 to 26 receive services between the Beekman Center and Heartwood School, Ingham Intermediate School District Superintendent Jason Mellema previously told East Lansing Info.

The bond proposal would raise property taxes by 55 cents per $1,000 of taxable value in 2026 and by an expected average of 45 cents per $1,000 of taxable value during the 20-year life of the bond, according to the ballot language.
Previously, ELi reported on the history of the Beekman Center, who attends the school and why district administrators say repairs are now needed. Additionally, Mellema spoke with ELi about what the bond proposal means for East Lansing residents.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Those who need to find their polling place, would like to check their voting registration, would like to view a sample ballot or have an election-related question can visit the online Michigan Voter Information Center. Election day registration is available in Michigan.
