East Lansing High School Student Was Killed in Monday Morning Shooting
DeRon James, a 15-year-old who would have been an 11th-grade student at East Lansing High School this fall, was killed early Monday morning in a shooting near Lansing’s St. Joseph Park.
An email the high school sent to parents and guardians of ELHS students shared James’ name.
“This sudden and unexpected loss is deeply felt by our entire school community,” the email said, “and our hearts are with DeRon’s family, friends, classmates, and all who knew and cared about him.”
The email said school staff and the ELHS Health Center staff will be available Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the center. Students are invited to drop in to grieve, remember James and receive support. A licensed social worker will be on hand, in addition to school staff.
The ELHS Health Center is located at Door 59 of the high school off Old Hickory Drive.
Other resources the administration shared include Ele’s Place of Lansing and Community Mental Health Authority of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties.
