Abbot and Burcham Intersection Closed Due to Gas Leak, Hannah Community Center Remains Open
The intersection between Burcham Drive and Abbot Road is currently closed due to a gas leak, Ingham County’s RAVE alert system notified residents at 2:13 p.m. today (Oct. 29).
East Lansing Communications Director Carrie Sampson told ELi over email that the gas leak is related to a contractor for Crown Castle hitting a gas line, and Consumers Energy has been contacted to fix the problem. As of 2:48 p.m., Sampson said there is not a timeline for the intersection to reopen.
The Hannah Community Center, which is currently housing an Early Voting Center, will remain open. The building can still be accessed through side streets. From the south, that would be Fern Street to Evergreen Avenue to access the main parking lot. From the north, motorists can take Centerlawn Avenue to Forest Street to access either the overflow lot or continue on to the main lot off of Evergreen Avenue, Sampson said in an email to ELi,
The Early Voting Center at the Hannah Community Center is open daily through Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There will be another street closure today, beginning at 3 p.m. on M.A.C. Avenue from Burcham Drive to Linden Street. That closure is for MSU Fraternity and Sorority Life’s SAFE Halloween event, which lasts from 5-7 p.m., Sampson said.
