An Update on the Shooting Downtown on Saturday
Following a shooting in the early hours of Saturday morning in downtown East Lansing near Pinball Pete’s, the East Lansing Police Department is still “investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Captain Chad Connelly told ELi via email on Tuesday, and no arrests have been made.
The shooting was first reported by ELPD via a press release later in the day on which it occurred — July 31 — which ELi shared on its social media accounts.
The press release stated that “The shooting occurred at approximately 2:40 a.m. this morning following a verbal altercation between two individuals in which a firearm was produced. The individual who was shot sustained non-life-threatening injuries. All individuals involved have been identified and the firearm used in the altercation has been recovered by ELPD.”
Pinball Pete’s — on the corner of M.A.C. Avenue and Albert Street — was not mentioned in the ELPD release, but Fox47 reported that the shooting happened near Pinball Pete’s.
In response to ELi’s queries for confirmation and more information, Connelly wrote that the shooting “occurred in the downtown area near Pinball Pete’s and the gun was recovered in that area as well.”
Despite all the individuals being identified, ELPD has not released any information about the alleged suspect or victim and won’t be now, Connelly said. He did say that once the investigation is complete, more information might be released.
ELi also sought to get more information from ELPD about the May shooting at The Quarters apartments that caused multiple people to be hospitalized.
Connelly wrote back, saying that “there is not further information at this time. It is still an active investigation assigned in our Detective Bureau.”
Editor’s note: ELi initially shared the press release from ELPD stating that there had been a shooting downtown. This article is a follow up to those posts.
