The City of East Lansing’s Department of Public Works announced on Nov. 30 that they will be offering Christmas tree recycling, extra recycling days, and no-fee refuse collection throughout the holiday season.
All live-cut Christmas trees may be placed on the curb between Monday, Dec. 28 and Friday, Jan. 15. No stickers or requests for pickup are required, but all trees 6 ft. or taller should be cut in half. Tree stands, holiday decorations, and bags must be removed before being placed on the curb.
The City is also offering Christmas tree drop off recycling, at Patriarche, Emerson, Valley Court, Henry Fine, and Albert A. White Memorial parks. The parking lots where the tree drop off will be located can be found on the City’s website.
Extra recycling days will occur on Dec. 21 as well as Jan. 11, and these are in addition to normal recycling days. Items must be placed in recycling carts and must be clean and acceptable. The cart must be closed and on the curb before 7:30 a.m. on the collection day.
Items that aren’t accepted for recycling, or refuse, can be placed on the curb for collection between Dec. 15 and Jan 4. The normal yellow City trash bags are not necessary, and these collections will occur on normal collection days. Yard waste will not be accepted and bags must weigh less than 40 pounds.
