FlixBus Provides Route from Frandor to Detroit, Grand Rapids
A new bus route from Detroit to Grand Rapids is up and running and making stops at the Frandor Shopping Center in Lansing.
FlixBus, a company out of New York and with routes throughout North America, began offering the new route on Thursday, March 16, with hopes of making travel between cities easier for college students.
“Our Detroit-Grand Rapids route with a stop in East Lansing is a long-awaited expansion into Michigan where we already have service in Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and more,” FlixBus PR Manager Sean Hanft said in an email to ELi. “We hope to continue adding new stops throughout our Midwest network to provide affordable, convenient intercity bus transportation, especially in areas like East Lansing that have large student populations and could utilize our buses for day trips and holidays.”
Along with the Detroit to Grand Rapids route, FlixBus began offering a route in early March connecting Detroit and Toronto. The new Frandor stop represents the latest expansion of the company’s Midwestern reach.
The route connecting East Lansing to Detroit and two stops in Grand Rapids runs Wednesday through Sunday. The first buses leave Detroit at 10 a.m. and return trips from Grand Rapids depart at 3:20 p.m.
Tickets from East Lansing to Grand Rapids cost $25.99 and East Lansing to Detroit are $27.99. Tickets may be purchased through the FlixBus app or website.
Additionally, those interested may buy their carbon offsets for 1-3% of the ticket price. 75% of the money raised through carbon offset sales are invested in atmosfair’s Gold Standard Climate Protection Project Cleaner Cook Stoves in Rwanda. The other 25% is donated to the Future of Mobility Fund, which is operated by Flix and atmosfair and seeks to drive sustainable travel and decarbonization in the cities the company operates in.
