Four East Lansing Meetings You Might Want to Know About

Alice Dreger April 29, 2020February 19, 2021

Today and tomorrow will see four local governmental meetings – two in City of East Lansing government, two committees of the East Lansing school board. Here’s information about all of them.

The East Lansing Public Schools Finance Committee meets today, Wednesday, April 29, starting at 2 p.m. No agenda, agenda packet, or prior meeting minutes have been posted for this committee, and the school district has not responded to a request for that information. Find out how to attend the meeting at the Finance Committee’s dedicated page.

East Lansing’s City Council meets tomorrow, Thursday, April 30, starting at 9 a.m. The meeting agenda has now been posted; see it here. The agenda includes the seeking of Council’s approval for funding for many public works projects, preparing for rezoning of Lot 4 related to the MSUFCU proposal, use of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money from HUD including emergency federal funds, possible reduction in fees to businesses, management of liquor license renews, and the big whopper – the City’s budget for next year. Information on how to attend (and speak at) that meeting is available here.

The East Lansing Public Schools Academic and Technology Committee meets tomorrow, Thursday, April 30, starting at 1:30 p.m. No agenda, agenda packet, or prior meeting minutes have been posted for this committee, and the school district has not responded to a request for that information. Find out how to attend the meeting at the Academic and Technology Committee’s dedicated page. (Update: Board President Erin Graham has now provided an agenda; see it here.)

East Lansing’s Downtown Development Authority meets tomorrow, Thursday, April 30, starting at 4:30 p.m. The meeting agenda has now been posted; see it here. This meeting is set to be dedicated to the DDA’s plan to provide $250,000 in emergency grants to downtown businesses. We have a special report on that published earlier today. Information on how to attend (and speak at) that meeting is available here.

ELi plans to have reporters at all of these meetings. As a reminder, if you appreciate our reporting, we could use your help now with a donation. We have about $3,600 remaining in local match funds as we work to obtain $20,000 in donations by midnight on Tuesday, May 5. Donate right now by credit card through Omella (no fee to us), or see all your options for how to give to ELi here.
