Green Elementary Families Notified After Juvenile CSC Incident Reports
Two incidents of criminal sexual conduct reported near Robert L. Green Elementary School last week involve juveniles, East Lansing school and police officials told East Lansing Info.
The East Lansing Police Department’s publicly available crime maps show two incidents of criminal sexual conduct reported at the 1800 block of Pinecrest Drive, the same block as Green elementary, on May 19 and May 22. The incidents were classified by the East Lansing Police Department, or ELPD, as fourth degree criminal sexual conduct which is the lesser of the four degrees and pertains to non-consensual sexual contact rather than penetrative acts.
The reports of incidents came to law enforcement’s attention through Child Protective Services referral notices and are unrelated, ELPD Public Information Officer Adrian Ojerio told ELi.
“Schools, medical providers and law enforcement in Michigan are mandated reporters. This means that they are legally required to report suspected abuse or neglect of vulnerable individuals, such as children,” Ojerio said in an email to ELi.
ELPD didn’t clarify whether the two incidents took place at the school, but Amy Webster, principal at Robert L. Green Elementary told school staff and parents in an email Wednesday that one of the incidents involved a juvenile at school.
Ojerio said the incident involved a report that a juvenile acted inappropriately toward a staff member.
In an unrelated incident, police and Webster said there was a report of inappropriate conduct between two juveniles.
The email from Webster said school administrators were made aware of the crime map data on Monday and that the incidents are allegations, not convictions, at this time.
“Because these matters involve minors and remain confidential, we are unable to share additional details,” Webster wrote. “However, we want families to know that we take all reports involving student safety seriously and continue to work closely with law enforcement and appropriate agencies whenever concerns arise.”
