MSU to Host Remembrance and Healing Events for Third Anniversary of School Shooting
On the three-year anniversary of the deadly shooting on Michigan State University’s East Lansing campus on Feb. 13, 2023, the university is hosting several remembrance events on Friday for the Spartan community to reflect and heal.
Organ Remembrance – 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Students from the MSU College of Music and the Lansing Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will be playing continuous organ music in the MSU Alumni Memorial Chapel. The event, Organ Remembrance, is being put on as an opportunity for members of the university community, including Greater Lansing neighbors to take a pause in their day to calmly listen and reflect.
Caring Through Service – 1 to 3 p.m.
Members of the Spartan community are invited to support local mental health and wellness programming while connecting with other individuals interested in serving the community. MSU’s Center for Community Engaged Learning is hosting a Caring Through Service event at the Breslin Center Hall of History where participants can help assemble essential needs kits for Community Mental Health and wellness kits for MSU Counseling & Psychiatric Services.
Resource and Support Tent – 4 to 8 p.m.
Ahead of evening memorial programming, volunteers will be available in a heated tent at the corner of West Circle Drive and East Circle Drive, near the Grand River Ramp to hand out luminary kits, bottled water and hot cocoa while directing individuals to appropriate support resources.
Beaumont Tower Bells/Lighting of Buildings – 8:10 to 8:30 p.m.
MSU will play music, then hold a moment of silence before ringing the Beaumont Tower bells from 8:10 to 8:30 p.m. The Beaumont Tower, along with the MSU Union and Berkey Hall will be illuminated green from dusk on Feb. 13 until dawn on Feb. 14.
