Student Book Store (SBS) sells way more than just textbooks to college students. Shoppers can find a plethora of art and office supplies, Spartan gear, and other novelty items. The best part? Most of these items are currently 30 percent off and will most likely remain that way for the entire month, according to owner Greg Ballein.
For the budding artist, you can pick up paints of all sorts – water colors, acrylics, and charcoals. Don’t forget the brushes and paper while you are there. If painting isn’t your thing, SBS also offers pens, pencils, and markers.
The aspiring writer (or even journalist) will find composition books with different designs, Moleskin notebooks, beautiful portfolios —with and without Spartan branding – and even backpacks to carry it all around.
SBS also sells a ton of Spartan paraphernalia from the large Spartan-opoly game (a local take on Monopoly), mugs, footballs, sneakers, and clothes for even the youngest of Spartan fans. For the soon-to-be alum, make sure to check out the frames and certificate displays.
Don’t forget to pick up some stocking stuffers while you are in there! SBS carries smaller items like keychains, flashlights, socks, and cell phone chargers.
When speaking to ELi on Tuesday, Ballein said that he really misses the students being in town, but not for the reason you may think. Yes, business has been hit hard by the lack of in-person classes, but Ballein misses interacting with the students. He had employed some of them, and working with them, he said, kept him young and in touch with what is going on.
This time of year, SBS would be holding its anniversary sale – it turns 60 this year – for one day, but Ballein is offering 30 percent off most full-price items, excluding textbooks and electronics.
SBS is open for shoppers to come inside, but it also provides ordering online and over the phone. You can have items shipped to your home or have them placed on hold to pick up in the store.
SBS is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Now’s the time to support ELi to keep it coming in 2021!
