Evergreen Land Sale Falls Through
The sale of the Downtown Development Authority’s Evergreen Avenue properties has fallen through, DDA Executive Director Lori Mullins told East Lansing Info.
ELi broke news of the sale in September 2025, the day Landmark Properties and Consulting LLC signed a purchase agreement. The properties have drawn interest from developers because they provide rare space for a large project in downtown East Lansing, but past attempts to sell or develop the land have failed.
Mullins said the DDA received notice of termination of the purchase agreement earlier this week, adding the buyers had until April 21 to make that decision.
“The DDA will have to evaluate different options for next steps,” she said.
This comes as two more payments on the properties are due this month, $355,000 on the principal and another $107,770.50 in interest. The DDA took on $5.6 million in debt to purchase the properties in 2009. The interest and principal payments on the land have been a significant drain on the DDA’s budget.
ELi reached out to Landmark to learn about its decision not to move forward with the purchase, but has not yet heard back.
This is breaking news. ELi will continue to report as more is found out.
