Graffiti at MAC May Have Referenced UnitedHealthcare CEO Shooting, Spurs Enhanced Security
Additional security measures were taken at Lansing-area University of Michigan Health Sparrow (UMH-S) locations after graffiti that may have referenced the shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was found outside the UMH-S Michigan Athletic Club (MAC) in East Lansing.
UMH-S employees received emails and text messages Tuesday, Dec. 17, morning informing them of the graffiti in front of its MAC building at 2900 Hannah Boulevard. The message said the graffiti portrayed an “inappropriate message” that UMH-S was investigating with the help of law enforcement.
ELi received a copy of the email and text staff received, ensuring recipients that no specific threat was identified.

In a phone interview, Captain Bart Crane of the Meridian Township Police Department (MAC is under Meridian Township’s jurisdiction) declined to detail what the graffiti said.
“It’s still an active investigation,” Crane said, “so we can’t go into specifics.”
However, when asked if the graffiti referenced themes surrounding the Dec. 4 UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting in New York City, Crane affirmed that the graffiti message could be connected to that incident.
Corey Alexander, senior public relations specialist with UMH-S declined to comment on the specifics of the graffiti.
“While there is no active threat,” Alexander said in an email to ELi, “the safety and security of our team members, patients and visitors is and always will be our top priority. We have taken steps to add additional security measures to our Lansing-based locations and are working with local and state police to investigate this incident.”
ELi will provide updates on the investigation as they become available.
