East Lansing Schools Lockdown Today Deemed to be Caused By Another “Swatting” Call
UPDATE 4:02 p.m.: Shortly after publication, the Ingham County Emergency Alert system sent out a notification confirming the call has been deemed to be swatting and there is no threat to the community. Police have completed a sweep of the area.
East Lansing Public Schools entered a lockdown again on Tuesday afternoon, just days after a false bomb threat caused high school students to be dismissed early on Friday.
At about 3:40 p.m., two ELPS teachers confirmed to East Lansing Info that the lockdown has been ended and students were released. The cause is believed to have been another false threat.
Police searched the high school and surrounding areas on Friday and found nothing of concern, later saying the threat is believed to be a false report that is also known “swatting.” Today’s lockdown may be similar in nature, East Lansing Police Department Public Information Officer Capt. Adrian Ojerio told East Lansing Info via text.
“I have been informed that it may be a similar type of call, like last week,” Ojerio wrote. “Officers are investigating.”
The headline to this story was updated after the call was confirmed to be deemed swatting.
